"If one listens with undivided attention to the sounds of stringed instruments, he will, in the end, be absorbed into the either of Consciousness and thus attain the nature of Shiva." Vijnanabhairava, Dharana 18, Verse 41
Alap is the beginning part of the Raga, which may last for only seconds or up to many hours. Alap sets up the melodic structure and mood of the musical composition before the introduction of rhythm and fast technique. I have focussed on this initial part of the raga, which is very open and Zen-like in order to create an inward and deep contemplative mood that can be used for meditation and relaxation.
Sitar Meditation has been inspired by the great masters of raga and meditation, who are close to my heart.
