Annual Alumni Reunion of Sainik School Bijapur Held
Ajeet Alumni association of Sainik School Bijapur organised its annual alumni meet at the premies of Sainik School Bijapur on Dec 8-9, 2012.
Lt Gen P G Kamath, AVSM, YSM, SM, Commandant, Army war college, Mhow (MP) was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He also delivered key-note address 'Late Air commodore KD Singh Memorial lecture'.
A souvenir of the AAA was released by Lt Gen PG Kamath on the occasion. A manual documenting SOP for Sainik Schools was also released by the Hon'ble Chief Guest Lt Gen PG Kamath. Col (Retd) AR Patil had compiled the manual which elaborates in detail standard operating procedures for smooth functioning of the school.
Principal Col R Balaji gave an introductory speech and briefed about the achievements and development of the school. He informed that the school has emerged as the best Sainik School in the country by its stupendous performance in academics as well as sports. Deputy Commissioner Mr.Shivayogi Kalsad, IAS, an alumnus of the school, welcomed the guests of honour and the gathering.
Addressing the large gathering of the alumni, , Lt Gen PG Kamath said that the school has contributed immensely to the society by churning out lion-hearted students from the portals of the school who were ready to take up challenges in this fast-paced modern world.
Terming the school as the cradle of nation builders, Lt Gen Kamath said that the ethos of the school and strong foundation had led a number of Ajeets to occupy coveted positions in the society by climbing the ladder of success facing tumultuous hurdles.
Lt Gen Kamath exhorted the cadets to do their best in their endeavour and carve a niche for themselves in the chosen field of their vocation. He also said that every human being is a unique person and has the potential but one has to seize opportunities and optimize and maximize their potentialities in order to become successful in their life. He also delved deeply on leadership qualities by giving illustrations from the life of great leaders such as Alexander, Napoleon and Kamal Pasha.
Mr. Gopal Hosur, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence), Karnataka and Mr. Satish Maneshinde, leading lawyer of Mumbai High Court, recalled their fond memories of the schooldays with nostalgia. Mr. Maneshinde felt that the school had laid firm foundation during the formative years and this had enabled him to face the challenges of the competitive world and become successful
Maj Gen K Arjun Muthanna, Director of Centre for Counter Terrorism (CCT), ISD,Bangalore and his batch donated books to the School library to promote reading habits among the school cadets.
Earlier Lt Gen PG Kamath paid floral tributes to the martyrs by placing wreath at the Remembrance Sthal. A guard of honour was presented by the cadets of Sainik School Bijapur to the visiting dignitary.
A number of programmes were organised as the get-together of the alumni coincided with the celebration of the golden jubilee year of the school. Walkathon for Ajeets was organized on Sunday morning. Symphony orchestra was presented by Artillery Centre Band, Nashik. Madras Regimental Centre Pipe Band displayed spectacular pipe band display. The old boys also participated in a number of games organized during these two days.
A large number of past students from all over India and abroad attended the two-day meet. A number of luminaries who attended the annual get-together included Rear Admiral R M Purandare VSM and Air Vice Marshal (Retd) VK Yajurvedi, AVSM, VM. The meet had overwhelming response of the old students as the annual reunion of alumni coincided with the golden jubilee celebration of the school which commenced on 16 Sep 2012. The retired teachers of the school were felicitated on the occasion.
Maj Gen (Retd) KN Mirji VSM, Vice-President of Ajeet Alumni Association, announced that the next meeting of the association will be held at Bangalore on 14 December 2013. Dr.Deepak Chavan, treasurer of AAA Bijapur and Mr.Basavaraj Hanagandi, Secretary of AAA Bijapur, conducted the programme.
