On 30th October 2007 about 5000 students from hundreds of different schools within Bangalore trooped to the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association for a very special event indeed. "Renaissance 2007″ was a youth conference organised by the 3190 Rotary Club Bangalore - the idea being to create a platform for children to come and speak their ideas about what can lead India and make it a better place: economically, socially and globally. The host was none other than the former president APJ Abdul Kalam, a person known for adoring children, and acknowledging their role in the development of our country. He addressed the crowd, and told the children to always work hard, dream big. Kalam emphasized on the cliché "You will only get the fruit out of life if you work hard and follow your dreams." After a very repetitive 30 minute speech, students selected by the schools joined Kalam on the dias and had a question-answer session with him discussing the current situation in India and what can be done to fix problems facing this nation. After that Kalam left, but it was not over yet. More State-wide famous speakers and activists talked to us about a range of things that will help our country like civic awareness, following laws, not encouraging unethical acts and so on. These people spoke so well that the mind of every person in the crowd, be it a student, a teacher or even a security guard was shaped in an India-friendly way.
